Hospice National Regatta – A Huge Success
Haarstick Sailmakers built 12 sets of identical sails for the 2009 Hospice National Championship Regatta. The event was sailed on 12 identical Sonars with the rigging tuned by the same person to the same numbers and pinned in place. That means that tactics and sail trim were the name of the game to win this event. John Enwright from Jefferson County (also sails out of Oswego) won the event, with Gunner and Brook Richardson from Rochester NY in 2nd and Gary Tisdale of Youngstown NY in third. There were close to 20 teams from FL, CA, MA, NJ and others that came to represent their region. It was nice to see Upstate NY take 1,2,3.
There were a few emergency spinnaker repairs throughout the weekend, but all in all it was fairly quiet and the sails were a big hit. Many thanks to the National Hospice Alliance, the Rochester Yacht Club and Lifetime Care of Rochester NY, for all your help with this project.
The 2010 and 2011 National Regatta’s will also be at Rochester Yacht Club and we look forward to helping out with another great regatta.
